Most electrical problems in Portland and Vancouver homes announce themselves long before they become an emergency: a panel brand with a known recall history, a bathroom without GFCI protection, ungrounded two-prong outlets on a circuit someone later added to, smoke alarms past their ten-year replacement date. None of that is visible from the couch, and none of it is urgent enough to make anyone pick up the phone.
So we look for free. A licensed electrician spends about 45 minutes going through the system — the panel and its labelling, the grounding and bonding, protection on the circuits that are required to have it, the condition of visible wiring and devices, and the smoke and CO alarms. You get the findings in writing, sorted into what is a genuine safety issue, what is worth planning for, and what is fine as it is.
There is no obligation attached and no charge if you decide the answer is "nothing for now". We do this because a written picture of your system is the most useful thing we can hand a homeowner, and because roughly one in four homes in this metro predates 1940 — there is usually something worth knowing.

The honest boundary: a safety check tells you the condition of what's installed. It does not include tracing a fault. If something in your house is actively misbehaving, book a service call instead — you'll get an answer faster and you won't pay twice for the same visit.
