When to Call an Emergency Electrician (and When to Wait)

Some electrical issues can wait for a scheduled visit. Others need attention right now. Knowing which is which keeps your family and property safe.

Call immediately for burning smells, smoke, sparking outlets or panels, a hot breaker or panel, exposed or damaged wiring, or a total loss of power that isn't a neighborhood outage. These situations can escalate quickly.

You can usually schedule a normal appointment for a single dead outlet, a light fixture that stopped working, or a breaker that trips once and resets cleanly. Still worth fixing — just not a 2 a.m. call.

When in doubt, treat it as urgent and make the call. A licensed emergency electrician would always rather take a cautious call than get a dangerous one too late.
